About Us

Why Blu Salt?

Blu Salt was built to do nothing less than challenge the status quo - on how we consume and how business should be run. We are striving to build a community of like-minded individuals around a thoughtful model of mindful production, mindful consumption.

Why the name Blu Salt?

Blu signifies indigo, one of the main exports of the British Raj. Salt is for the Salt Tax Mahatma Gandhi opposed and used to galvanize the Indian people to fight for independence. He is our inspiration of peaceful resistance to the current models of production & consumption.

What are RPET, organic cotton and up-cycled silk?

Recycled Polyethylene Terephtalate comes from plastic that has already had a prior life, such as plastic drink bottles. We have worked carefully to create RPET fabric that not only feels fantastic to touch, but is also durably water & stain repellent.

We use C6 DWR treatment - we realize that it's not the ideal solution, but until we can find a similarly reliable environmentally safe alternative, we are using the best balance we can find between utility and sustainability.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is cotton grown in an environment where no pesticides, chemical fertilizers or herbicides have been used for a minimum of 3 years. Dyes used to color this fabric are also eco-friendly & azo free.

Up-cycled silk

Rather than use virgin silk, we create our own silk using high-end dupion silk remnants from the home furnishings industry. As with the cotton, the dyes for silk are also eco-friendly & azo-free.

The creation and production of any physical product has an environmental and ecological impact. As a company creating a product that is exceptionally beautiful and useful, we feel it just as important to minimize the environmental footprint of our products -  hence, our commitment to sustainable fabrics. We understand that our goal to account for our environmental impact is a moving target, and so, we hope to take on more initiatives as we continue to grow.

Do All your bags Come with cross-body straps?

Absolutely. One of the fundamental tenets of our business is to make our products as functional as possible. Our Sharon clutch comes with a detachable & adjustable cross-body strap, while the Rama Wallet comes with both a wristlet lanyard and a detachable cross-body strap. The larger bags all come with appropriately sized cross-body straps as well, and they are designed to be interchangeably used with other similarly sized bags.
